The Inevitable Change

Warmth engulfs me in this cold wind
As I hear my phone ring.
Two lit up faces look back
As I stare at them in awe
Oh how have we all changed
And are yet the same

Clouds of fond memories swamp me
As we giggle over silly anecdotes
and amusing throwbacks
Back when we were a pack.
Oh how have we all changed
And are yet the same

I am reminded of our late night talks,
our long beach walks
The way we spent hours just discussing dreams
and our eyes would gleam
Random conversations
No inhibitions
Oh how have we all changed
And are yet the same

Those unplanned trips,
and spontaneous theatre visits
Getting drenched in the rain
When life didn't seem so vain
Impulsively bunking classes
From giving atrocious relationship advice
To being a shoulder so wise
Oh how have we all changed
And are yet the same

Years have passed,
We have now grown up
Responsibilities haunt us more
than the ghosts of our past.
We have grown up at last
But as I sit and stare at
those two familiar faces on my screen arranged
I cannot help but wonder
Have we all really changed?
